TO LEAD PEOPLE TO BECOME FULLY DEVOTED FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST
My wife, Sylvia, and I have been married for 31 years. We have two children, Erin and Jonathan. Erin is married to Andy and Jonathan is married to Bailey, and together they have our three wonderful grandchildren – Drew, Amelia and Hattie! I enjoy bass fishing but most of all I love being with my family and playing with kids! My favorite songs – “Amazing Grace” and “Jesus Loves Me.” My best buddy – Jesus!
I am originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia. When I was growing up, my Dad was the Sunday School Superintendent and if the church doors were open, my family was there. That started a love of the church that I want to share with others. I love to read, to hike and to cook.
Director of Adult Ministries
My husband, Barry, and I met at our Methodist Church in Downers Grove, Il while in high school youth group. We moved to Indian Trail, NC shortly after we married because my family had relocated here and I am a momma’s girl! We raised two sons in Mint Hill at Blair Road UMC and can’t imagine being anywhere else. I have always loved children’s ministry but have a new-found passion for our older adults and the wonderful opportunities for ministering with them. I enjoy continuing my education and improving my ministry by attending classes at Pfeiffer University and Christian Education Conferences around the southeast. I have a BS from Eastern Illinois University and Masters of Education from Appalachian State.

She has played for churches for over 30 years, and also enjoys playing handbells and working with the children and youth musical programs. Rita and her husband, Tim, reside in Matthews and have 3 adult children, Tim Jr, Christine, and Alex. In addition to playing the organ at Blair Road, Rita teaches piano lessons. She is a life long United Methodist and loves being at Blair Road. Secretly, she would love to play the harmonica, but so far has not been able to master it!
